Using this resource
The Radio Amateur Society of Australia (RASA) provides this service to assist newcomers to get on-air,as well as for those studying for the Foundation Licence We ask amateurs using this service to help us make it a success. We encourage everyone to read the Knowledge Base (KB) Articles first, search for topics of interest and undertake your own experiments. The tenets of the hobby apply. Experiment, learn, investigate.
We will add to the KB Articles over time and invite amateurs to help us add to this resource.
Scope and Terms and Conditions
The service is a small-scale implementation and will be used to prove the viability of the project concept. This pilot project uses Freshdesk (www.freshdesk.com) in its most basic offering.
We will continue seek feedback and the trial will be reviewed to assess acceptance and success.
Success will be measured by:
- Active participation from newcomers – in the form of questions, feedback and taking action to engage in the hobby.
- Involvement and support from the broader AR community to assist in promoting the resource
- Active participation from the broader AR community in assisting in the development of Knowledge Base articles and encouraging newcomers to use the resource
If the RASA Committee feel these objectives are being satisfied, the resource may be expanded and continued beyond the Trial period. Feedback will be sought from users.
The resource may be adapted to better fit expectations from the amateur community.
Clubs and educators will be asked to promote the resource and provide feedback.
Reporting from Freshdesk metrics may be helpful to the Syllabus review panel and AR educators.
Scope
The scope will be limited to entry level support for the following broad topics:
- Antennas – for at home & portable
- Basic Station set-up and Housekeeping
- Feedlines
- QRM
- On-air and DX operating practices
- Questions & Support for those using the RASA Foundation Level Study Guide
We cannot offer detailed support on computer configuration problems – especially for digital modes. Users must be willing to undertake further investigation and research.
Learning support for the Study Guide is offered on a best effort basis. RASA does not have the resources of some of the larger clubs and representative bodies. We don't have paid staff or the funds to pay for contractors. All our support is provided by volunteers.
Having said that, RASA volunteers will do their best to answer any questions you may have. No service levels are offered or implied.
RASA does not recommend or endorse particular radios, new or second hand. The same applies for any commercial products. Any suggestions are made in good faith only.
